Product Details

Your own private woodworking experience with individual tuition throughout the day.

Sometimes the best way to learn is one-to-one.

Our private tuition days give you exclusive access to the workshop and individual instruction throughout the day, allowing the experience to be structured around your ability and the skills you want to develop.

Whether you're a complete beginner, have some woodworking experience or want to build your confidence using particular tools and machinery, private tuition provides the time and individual attention to progress quickly.

Unlike our group workshops, where everybody follows the same project, one-to-one tuition allows us to tailor the level and emphasis of the teaching to you.

However, projects are agreed with us beforehand to ensure they provide the right range of skills and can realistically be completed within the time available.

What Can We Cover?

Depending on your experience and objectives, tuition can include:

  • Correct use and setup of hand planes.
  • Sawing and chiselling techniques.
  • Accurate measuring and marking out.
  • Timber preparation.
  • Understanding timber and material selection.
  • Traditional woodworking joints.
  • Furniture construction principles.
  • Safe use of woodworking machinery.
  • Sanding and surface preparation.
  • Assembly and glue-up techniques.
  • Finishing.
  • Planning and sequencing your own future projects.

We'll discuss what you'd like to achieve before your tuition begins and agree the most appropriate programme.

Project-Based Learning

We believe the best way to learn woodworking is by making something.

Rather than practising techniques in isolation, we'll normally structure your tuition around an agreed project that allows you to experience the appropriate tools, techniques and processes.

For multi-day furniture-making tuition, this may be a carefully selected project such as a coffee table, designed to introduce you to timber preparation, jointing, machinery, assembly and finishing.

This is important: highly specialised projects aren't necessarily suitable simply because they can be made from wood.

Our objective is to teach you woodworking, not simply help you complete an item.
