Three-Day Site Carpentry Workshop | Thursday 10 – Saturday 12 September 2026
Learn the practical carpentry skills used every day on a building site.
Three days. Real tools. Real construction. Practical skills you can actually use.
This intensive three-day workshop is designed for anyone wanting to learn the fundamental skills of site carpentry in a realistic, hands-on environment.
Rather than making a small item to take home, you'll learn by constructing a full timber stud partition incorporating a door opening.
You'll set out and build the timber frame, form the opening, make and fit the door lining, hang a door, fit a lock, install architraves and skirting and clad the partition with plasterboard.
In other words, you'll experience the sequence of work a carpenter encounters on an actual construction project.
With a maximum of only three participants, this is a highly practical course with substantial individual tuition and plenty of time using the tools yourself.
During Your Experience
Over the three days you'll learn how to:
- Understand basic setting-out principles.
- Measure, mark and cut construction timber accurately.
- Select and safely use appropriate hand and power tools.
- Construct a timber stud partition.
- Form a structural opening for a door.
- Make and install a door lining/frame.
- Hang and adjust an internal door.
- Fit hinges and door furniture.
- Install a lock or latch.
- Cut and fit architraves.
- Cut and fit skirting boards.
- Measure, cut and install plasterboard.
- Understand the correct sequence of first and second-fix carpentry operations.
The emphasis throughout is on practical ability, not classroom theory.
Learn Skills You Can Actually Use
This workshop is designed to bridge the gap between watching somebody do carpentry and actually being able to tackle it yourself.
You'll learn not just what to do, but why it's done in a particular sequence.
By working through a realistic construction exercise, you'll develop an understanding of accuracy, tolerances, setting out, tool selection and problem solving – all essential skills for competent site carpentry.
