Young Makers Woodworking Experience

Give them a day away from screens and let them discover the satisfaction of making something for themselves.

Our Young Makers Workshop gives young people the opportunity to experience something increasingly rare – spending a day learning practical skills and creating something with their own hands.

Held during selected school holidays in our traditional Cambridgeshire barn, the workshop introduces young makers to woodworking in a safe, structured and enjoyable environment.

Under close supervision, they'll learn how to measure, mark, saw, shape, sand and assemble timber while working towards a project they can proudly take home at the end of the day.

This isn't about sitting and watching.

They'll be making.

Along the way they'll develop practical ability, concentration, confidence and an appreciation of how things are actually made.

During Their Experience

Young Makers will learn how to:

• Work safely within a woodworking environment.
• Identify and correctly use basic woodworking tools.
• Measure and mark timber accurately.
• Saw and shape timber.
• Use hand tools safely and confidently.
• Sand and prepare timber.
• Assemble their project accurately.
• Understand the importance of patience, accuracy and planning.
• Complete a woodworking project they can take home and be proud of.

All activities and tool use are selected appropriately for the group and closely supervised.

More Than Just Making Something

Practical skills develop far more than the ability to work with wood.

Throughout the day, Young Makers are encouraged to:

• Solve problems for themselves.
• Develop patience and concentration.
• Build confidence in their own practical ability.
• Experience the satisfaction of completing something tangible.
• Spend meaningful time away from phones, gaming and screens.
• Discover an interest that could potentially last a lifetime.

There is something enormously powerful about being able to say:

“I made that.”

No previous woodworking experience is required.

Level: Beginner
Maximum: Seven Young Makers
Minimum: Five participants

Young Makers Workshops run on selected dates during the school holidays. Minimum Age 11.

If the minimum number is not reached, we will contact you to offer either a full refund or transfer to another available date.
